Chameleon Arts Caravan

Chameleon Arts Caravan is an interdisciplinary performance troupe and arts festival composed of collaborating arts agencies in the Chameleon Arts Consortium.  Working in partnership with Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department, the Caravan provides single day arts festivals to Parks and Recreation Community Centers. The Caravan offers puppetry performances by the nationally renowned StoneLion Puppet Theatre, accompanied by workshops and performances in African dance and drumming, spoken word poetry, theater and visual arts. The performances and festivals are designed to entertain and teach youth populations about cultural diversity, ecology, the role of art in society and address issues young people deal with on a daily basis.  The Arts Caravan is supported through funding from the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund to bring art and arts educational experiences to urban neighborhoods and invite visitors to the city, tourists and out of town conference delegates to enjoy the arts with these vital inner city communities. Contact Chameleon to schedule The Arts Caravan for your school, private event, public festivals and community agency.

Green Days 2009

A Picnic for the Planet

What happens when the planet throws a picnic? Over 2000 of our friends joined us to find out!

This puppet show of absurd proportions took place July 19, 2009 at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art under amazingly cool weather (we must have good Karma). The ants arrived with their 16’ tall picnic basket, had a food fight, invited their bug friends, chased off the evil bug spray and were visited by a 75’ long Mother Earth puppet.

This event was the culmination of our 8 Green Day Festivals this spring in the Kansas City Metropolitan area. Our 80’ long picnic blanket was created with the artistic talent of over 400 children and adults. If you would like to see more photos become a fan of StoneLion Puppet Theatre on Facebook.

Special thanks go to our sponsors! Plans are underway to create next year’s event. Send us an email to join the planning group this fall!

Eight local GREEN Festivals led up to our giant puppet pageant in the spring of 2009.

Over 9100 individuals joined us at Tony Aguirre Community Center, NE Chalk Walk, Lakeside Nature Center, Line Creek, Wyandotte High School, Chameleon/KCKS Homeless Liasion, St. Mark and Earthwalk/Theis Mall to celebrate the planet, create their own art and help us build our 2009 Picnic for the Planet.
