Happy Holidays from Chameleon!
Grant Awards
We are pleased to announce that Chameleon has been awarded a Catalyst grant from the KC Arts Fund and a grant from the Missouri Arts Council. Thanks!
StoneLion Puppet Theatre, a Chameleon Arts Consortium partner, has received a Francis Foundation grant for 2009 in support of our collaboration on Environmental Art Festivals in Spring 2009.
Fall 2008 was filled with arts and youth programming!
Chameleon’s KCKSKids has worked with the Office of Homeless Liaison of the Kansas City Public School District to bring excellent arts programming to Homeless Children. Artists from the Hip Hop Academy, a Chameleon Arts Consortium Member, teaching the children dance, rap and visual arts, are facilitating the program. Programming will end on December 13, 12:00-4:00 and we invite you to stop by and see these remarkable kids and artists.

St Marks Family Development Center
Chameleon is working with St. Marks Child and Family Development Center to use the arts in early childhood education. Chameleon and Hugh Merrill met with the Administration and educators of St. Marks earlier this fall to come up with a plan. StoneLion Puppet Theatre, a Chameleon Arts Consortium Partner, was brought in to facilitate the program for 2008/2009. Heather Lowenstein, master puppeteer and company founder, has scheduled interactive workshops and plays with themes that help reinforce academic and core learning values for these youngsters.

Green Day Celebrations
Last year Chameleon and StoneLion Theatre produced a series of ecological themed arts and puppet workshops for Kansas City Missouri Community Centers. Last year’s activities reached out to over 4000 metro area residents and culminated in a giant puppet pageant on the lawn of The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
We want to double that success this year! Plans are underway to expand our Green Day Festivals in the spring of 2009. These FREE festivals in area communities celebrate the planet, teach environmental awareness and engage our audiences in ART in a very hands on way. Sponsored by the Francis Foundation, Muriel McBrien Kauffman, NTDF and R.A. Long Foundation.

Kansas City Art Institute
Heather Lowenstein and Hugh Merrill teamed up to teach the art of puppet theatre to Foundation students at KCAI. The students who had never made puppets prior to this workshop produced professional quality marionettes. Many had to learn to sew and sculpt to complete these remarkable art works.
